Sacramento Sportfishing Guides

Captain Jack Findleton

Jack Findleton owns Sacramento Sportfishing Guides.  A native New Yorker, raised on Long Island Sound, Jack entered the military and served in Viet Nam with the 101st Airborne Division in 1967-68.  After college and as a businessman, his company relocated him to California.  After doing his time as one of those suit kinda guys, he followed one his life time interests and founded Sacramento Sportfishing Guides in 1983.

Fishing and Hunting News touts Jack as one of the best striper fishermen in the state.  "He's tough to beat when it comes to trolling lures, which is arguably the best way to take a two-fish limit of spring running Delta stripers."  Jack's fishing accomplishments include winning two California Striped Bass Association Spring Derbys in the Sacramento Delta.  Jack founded the Sacramento Chapter of the California Striped Bass Association.  He served as the chapter's first President and was voted the first life time membership.  He is dedicated to the preservation and propagation of California's fisheries.  Because of his dedication, he was appointed to and currently serves on the State of California Striped Bass Stamp Advisory Committee.

Jack's "know how" is not limited to stripers.   He has received newspaper acclaim for his Delta sturgeon fishing as well as shallow white water fishing for salmon and steelhead in the upper Sacramento River.  During the summers Jack can be found in Alaska fishing for King Salmon, Coho Salmon, and Giant Halibut.

Jack's professional fishing accomplishments includes serving on the Lowrance and Eagle Pro Staff, as well as the pro staff's for Berkeley Ambassador and Luhr-Jensen. You may have seen Jack at sport and boat shows as a seminar speaker or perhaps on television or over the radio. These quest appearances have been both local to the Sacramento area as well as national. Jack has also published articles for sports newspapers and magazines.

In 1985 Jack commanded the water operations for the Humphrey the Whale rescue. This gave Jack the claim to fame of co-authoring the book, The Great Whale Rescue. As far as we know this is the only adult book on the rescue.

Jack's a friendly kind of guy, he will keep the conversation going with as much fishing information as you can absorb... the equipment, the bait, the lures, the techniques, the water conditions, and the truth. Truth is important to Jack because he wants you to be a repeat client. It is important to Jack that you have an enjoyable fishing experience. Particularly, he feels a positive experience is important for the first timer or kids learning to fish. They are the sport's future.

At this point what more can I say. A resume is boring and usually doesn't tell you what you really want to know. Jack's the kind of guy you'll enjoy spending the day with; I know I do.

An unbiased writer.
